My first ever income from writing!

For a moment this morning I was worried. Logging in to my eBook publisher, lulu.com, I saw my sales balance was $0.00. Wait, what?

Oh, right. It was finally time to send out my first payment, and so my balance returned to zero. In other words, I got paid!

Now, let’s face it– this writing thing doesn’t usually make us rich. We’re doing it primarily because we love it, and also, we just have to. The muse speaks, and we can’t help but listen. We get “paid” in the enjoyment we get out of writing. I know I enjoy it, even when it feels more like work than fun.

So the $25 I’ve earned from my two eBooks may not seem like anything, really. Peanuts. But those sales were to real people who parted with their hard-earned cash. It’s not peanuts to me. It’s really fantastic that folks bought my books, and I sincerely appreciate it! If that was you, thank you a million times over!

The upside is that this year I started this website, and the hosting being “not free” this income will help “keep the lights on.” So in that sense, it’s paying for itself. The tiny fee that lulu.com charges for their wonderfully helpful Global Distribution service also gets negated by this income, so the books have paid for their own publication at this point.

That’s awesome! And if sales continue, there are plans to create audiobook versions of There’s Always Ants and Don’t Go Outdoors. That’s a whole process and project of its own and I can’t commit to it until I have the funds to pay for either a voice actor or a quality AI text-to-speech service. And that’s where these “peanuts” come in very handy.

So it’s wonderful to know that this is finally starting to happen. It’s very exciting, and I couldn’t have done it without you, the reader. Thank you so much! And of course, stay tuned as new projects reach the finish line I’ll announce their publication here.

Thanks again for reading, and keep turning those pages!
